New Maxus eTerron 9 electric pickup debuts

All-electric Maxus eTerron 9 pickup can haul 620kg

Maxus has launched its second all-electric pickup — following on from the current T90EV model — at the IAA Transportation commercial vehicles show in Hannover.

The new Maxus eTerron 9 is an all-electric pickup with a maximum load weight of 620 kg and a load bay that measures 2.4 metres in length. It can tow up to 3,500kg. Supplementing the load bay, there’s also a large 236-litre ‘frunk’ in the nose, which not only acts as a weatherproof luggage space but also includes a fold-out seat for on-the-go meals or viewing sites.

The eTerron 9’s power comes from a 325kW, 441hp twin electric motor setup, giving it permanent four-wheel drive. The eTerron 9 includes driver-adjustable settings for the driving mode (there are six modes, including Sand and Mud modes) and the settings for the standard-fit air suspension and stability control.

Standard air suspension

That air suspension means that the eTerron 9 can adjust its ride height for on- or off-road driving and lower the rear suspension by up to 60mm to aid loading and unloading.

The 102kWh battery offers a range of up to 430km and can be recharged at up to 115kW from a DC charging point, giving a 20-80 per cent charge in around 40 minutes. It uses robust lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry and is enclosed in a hefty safety frame.

Maxus includes leather upholstery

Inside, leather seats are standard, and the driver’s seat has eight-way electric adjustment and heating, cooling, and massage functions. The front seats also fold flat, turning the cabin into a large bed.

For working at night, Maxus claims that the eTerron 9’s Great Surround-Terrain Lighting System can illuminate objects up to 400 metres away. It also includes a distinctive wraparound LED lighting signature at the front.

Maxus says that the eTerron 9 uses both monocoque and separate-chassis construction techniques for added strength and expects the pickup to record a maximum five-star safety score when tested by Euro NCAP.

Irish prices have not yet been set.
